Norway is on my 'to do' list, I keep meeting people and reading articles on how breathtaking the place is...I hope I make it there someday soon. This film in particular has poked my little flame and is making my trip even more inevitable.
Here is James Bowthorpe, round-the-world cyclist, in the middle of the 'white' night in Norway with director Antony Crook and stylist Glenn Kitson for Crooks film '30 Century Man'. Mogwai lend the soundtrack with "How to be a Werewolf" which fits perfectly with the beautiful norwegian landscape backdrop.

I was lucky enough to spend the last few months in the beautiful Sri Lanka....the tear drop of India. Much more western in terms of development than India however, it still had the most wonderful culture and traditions which its people are very proud of. It was also home the friendliest, happiest people in the world, the Sri Lankan smile is so contagious I miss it.

Its not all just about posting pretty pictures here at shapes....so we thought we'd share 'Coalition of the Willing' ....a collaborative animated film and web-based event about an online war against global warming.

‘Coalition of the Willing’ has been Directed and produced by Knife Party, written by Tim Rayner and crafted by a network of 24 artists from around the world using varied and eclectic film making techniques. Collaborators include some of the world’s top moving image talent, such as Decoy, World Leaders and Parasol Island. The result is an incredible mix of animation and a optimistic exploration on how we can use new technologies to combat climate control.

JAEGER has recruited the artistic talents of Julie Verhoeven to create an exclusive illustration to be displayed in its soon-to-be opened Boutique by Jaeger pop-up store.

Verhoeven's new artwork will be used as the wallpaper for the store and in many of the label's shop windows. Elements of the illustration will also feature in a three dimensional form - as standees and hanging mobiles.

The Boutique by Jaeger store will open on Foubert's Place, off Carnaby St on August 7.

The Enchanted Palace

There's a new exhibition at Kensington Palace called 'Enchanted Palace' due to open this weekend which is sure to be a spectacular delight.....

Enchanted Palace is set in the State Apartments of Kensington Palace, where designers such as Vivienne Westwood, Steven Jones, Boudicca and William Tempest have collaborated with theatre company WILDWORKS (from West Cornwall), to create installations that combine modern design with historical artifacts. From forest scenes bathed in eerie blue light, to papier-mache animals and a cabinet of curiosities, the exhibition is hauntingly atmospheric and thoroughly immersive. Whispered voices follow you from room to room and a group of costumed characters wander through the exhibition, making the experience even more surreal

The exhibition exposes the secrets of the Royal Court, through the intertwining narratives of each themed room. This isn't your average historical exhibition, though - the information is implied, rather than explicit.

So if you are in the area, you should check it out...

As if being the face of the Autumn Winter Burberry campaign wasn't enough she is now turning her hand at designing with a new range at People Tree...and she looks, well amazing! Not so sure on the clothes though. Its as if shes just taken her favorite things and gone, copy that. Spike Jonze’s new half-hour short film titled I’m Here premiered at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival in January...even though now its March, its still worth a mention! (Its a rainy day too)

Funded by Absolut Vodka, I’m Here is a robot love story celebrating a life enriched by creativity. The movie is set in contemporary L.A., where life moves at a seemingly regular pace with the exception of a certain amount of robot residents who love among the population. A male robot librarian lives a solitary and methodical life — devoid of creativity, joy and passion - until he meets an adventurous and free spirited female robot.

I've only watched a small part so far..the film on the official website takes ages to load on my prehistoric internet connection! But I will persist...who wouldn't for Spike Jonze.

I got lost in a labyrinth of niceities on the world wide web the other night, as per usual I got carried away and forgot what the time was. On my journey I found a few things that inspired me... Apricot was one of them. It is a mini film about a man with memory loss asking a stranger about her first love. Rather skeptical at first, she soon vividly remembers, something which director Ben Briant captures beautifully.

The historic and creative brand Pringle of Scotland have taken the bold move forward to present the Spring Summer collection in the form of a film, created by art photographer Ryan McGinley and starring the Academy Award winner Tilda Swinton.

The short film explores iconic elements of the Scottish terrain whilst delivering beautiful images of the clothes themselves on the captivating and bewitching actress.

Here's a recent exhibition- Harvest by Haroshi: Skate and Destroy Exhibition recently shown at plsmis gallery in Tokyo, All the artworks have been created with old worn, or snapped, skateboard decks.

“Skate decks eventually see its life shortened by snapping, cracking and/or wearing out. Purchasing new decks is a never ending cycle and this was evident by the tower of old decks that were reaching to the ceiling of my room. We can’t throw away these decks because they hold sentimental meanings to us. I looked at these unusable decks every day and thought there must be something I can make with these.
.....
We see the care and effort that a skater can have for his/her deck and we also acknowledge the origins of a skateboard. We believe that if the small things we do can connect to sustainability then we’re doing something right. We’d be satisfied in our effort when people look at products and start thinking of ways to recycle.”

I was fortunate enough to get up to London Fashion Week this year and was really keen to check out the Cassette Playa show over at Somerset House.

For the presentation of Carri Munden’s N E U R O M A N C E collection, she employs augmented reality to further accentuate her futuristic themes. Each model entered the world of augmented reality which allowed them to interact between both physical and virtual worlds. 'Augmented reality (AR) is a term for a live direct or indirect view of a physical real-world environment whose elements are merged with (or augmented by) virtual computer-generated imagery - creating a mixed reality'

Neuromance is a capsule collection of Industrial, and mediEVIL references. Thrash, Death + Black metal imagery. Digital printed silk detailing and embroidered patches, feature on L/S tees, Melton wool Tailoring, zip up hooded tops and cropped nappa leather bombers. The range also includes assault vests with neoprene pocket details, graphic tees with CGI blood and chrome with glow in the dark screen prints.

Binary and The Brain have designed this lovely poster with BirdLife International to raise awareness of the 52 UK birds on the endangered red list. Each of the 52 birds used to create the letterforms are numbered for identification.

I read somewhere the other day that Februray is the new January...I'll let you decide what you think of that, for me things are looking brighter, its almost light when I wake up and I leave work still in daytime- spring might just be on the way, horray! Here are some pictures from the month just gone, it wasn't a typical month but as things go it was a good month, the Lizard really came into its own.

The new short feature film by Spike Jonze made its entrance at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival. Its a robot romance and a futuristic fable rooted in the universal emotions of first love, ruminating on youth, identity, autonomy and loss. What began as a small project in the wake of Where the Wild Things Are quickly blossomed into a 35-minute tale. Can't wait to see the whole feature, heres a snippet to wet your appetite!

There is a new girl in town...quite literally.

Meet Tavi, an intuitive 13 yr old who has just skipped school to grace the front rows of New York Fashion Week. She "Wears batman capes and oversized hats. Scatters black petals on Rei Kawakubo's doorsteps and serenades her in rap. Nowhere near 4 million readers but probably the same amount of clothes in my closet that I should probably clean out soon. I wish I was Daria but I get too excited about things like free candy to be deadpan all the time."

Runaway Style

The last few days have seen me in a very rock n roll mood and with fashion and music always at the center of most things we write about there's nothing more fitting to mention than the very exciting upcoming new movie The Runaways.

The rock biopic based on the 1970's all girl teenage rock group focuses on the band’s meteoric rise to their dissolution and disillusionment. The film follows two friends Joan Jett and Cherie Currie, as they rise from rebellious Southern Californian kids to rock stars of the now legendary group that paved the way for future generations of girl bands.

The film is written and directed by music video vet Floria Sigismondi (Marilyn Manson’s “The Beautiful People,” the White Stripes’ “Blue Orchid”).

And if the movie wasn't enough what us making us even more excited is the clothing. Think leather jackets, sky-high platform boots, denim jumpsuits, knotted scarves, cut-off short shorts, oversize aviators, piles of necklaces…the list goes on and on.

Not out until the 19th March we've got plenty of time to get some make shift outfits together and seriously re-think our hairstyles...

Wild Thing

So everybody must have seen 'Where the Wild Things Are' about three months ago...I on the other hand have only just got around to experiencing just how wonderful this movie is (Cornwall tends to get the 'lastest releases' 2 months after the rest of the UK).

I found this photoshoot in Dazed and Confused, Karen Langley has styled under the influence of the Wild Things... its beautiful and just shows that you don't have to be going to a fancy dress party to play!
